Background & Herd Sires
Wolf Angus Ranch was established in early 1993 during Brian Wolf’s time at CSU Chico. He had the opportunity to purchase five registered Angus cows and graze them on leased land outside of Chico. A few years later, he began a teaching career at Lassen Community College in Susanville, CA. In January 1996, he relocated his small herd to Susanville.
Since then, the herd has steadily grown under challenging conditions, producing cattle that meet the rigorous standards of the Rafter W brand. These cattle are bred to thrive in tough environments while maintaining productivity. Our focus is on raising fertile and low-maintenance cattle that can consistently produce a calf each year.
Our goal is to raise cattle that require minimal inputs and are capable of thriving independently. This involves selecting moderately framed, easy-fleshing cattle with the ability to travel. However, when these cattle are placed in a feedlot, they must also excel, earning premiums for performance and carcass quality.
We prioritize balanced genetics, emphasizing moderate, easy-fleshing phenotypes. Below is a list of reference sires from the past year. The bulls selected for our feedlot meet all essential criteria, including birth weight, growth, soundness, breeding soundness evaluation, and carcass quality.
